VIPA is the organisation for Virgin Australia Group pilots.  We strive to pro-actively represent our members’ needs, improve working conditions, and uphold the professional standing of airline pilots within the community.

The following principles are used to guide the Committee of Management:

Fairness and Transparency:      Key to an employee’s job satisfaction, Fairness and Transparency are the cornerstones of successful industrial relations.  Being a remote workforce, the pilot profession needs fair and transparent systems for career progression, roster and lifestyle matters, and in all disciplinary procedures.

Consultation: Association members should be consulted regularly to ensure accurate representation of members’ views.  The organisation will strive to provide multiple opportunities and mediums for members to express their views and opinions.

Communication: Pilots want to know what their representatives are doing to further their interests.  Regular communication from the organisation is an important part of the consultation process and the organisation aims to update members on all developments in a timely fashion.

Good Will: The good will of our profession has been worn down for many years.  Employers need to work with pilots and their representatives to build trust and good will back into our workplace, and VIPA will welcome all attempts to do this.

Common Ground: There are many ways we can work with our employers and regulators to find common ground and win-win outcomes.  The organisation will strive to work with all stakeholders to find common ground so that where possible, our objectives are achieved without detriment to other parties.

Future: Continual improvement to the pilot profession will ensure future generations of airline pilots enjoy elevated respect and working conditions and remuneration.  VIPA will always consider the long term ramifications of any decision made, so as to ensure that wherever possible, we are not advocating a short term gain with a cost to future generations of pilots.

Action: If we all stand by waiting for someone else to represent us, we will witness a further deterioration of our profession. VIPA is an organisation that takes action, rather than standing on the sidelines.
