Historic Result for Virgin Pilots

An overwhelming 85 per cent majority of V Australia pilots have voted to endorse a new deal that will deliver superior salaries and entitlements.

Long haul pilots will enjoy a salary rise of between 15-28 per cent under the agreement immediately and backdated to 1 July with increases between 3-4 per cent each year thereafter. The deal also means V Australia pilots will have a collective agreement for the first time, delivering stronger job security.

The Executive Director of VIPA, Simon O'Hara, heralded the vote as an historic result.

"This is the first time V Australia pilots have had a collective agreement and the proof is in the pudding - a strong salary rise and improved job security for Australian Virgin pilots. We expect this will be the beginning of a professional and respectful relationship between the Virgin Australia Group and VIPA."

The agreement has been struck after two years of negotiation and will improve consultation with management. It also includes an innovative credit system, which measures overtime and work performed.

All but two V Australia pilots voted in the ballot.

"This is an historic agreement and provides a clear path forward for pilots, management and the airline more broadly," Mr O'Hara said.
